Accommodation
La Petite Grange is a now a well restored 19th century
cottage nestling in the Mayenne countryside. It stands in 8 acres of
private, peaceful woodland with its own private fishing lake of about
1 acre. The lake is well stocked with carp up to 30lb and trout (good
fun to catch and barbecue). Both of our properties have been tastefully
restored retaining many of their original features. The surrounding
countryside is great for birdwatching as there are buzzards, kestrels,
kingfishers, woodpeckers and if you are lucky you may hear the cuckoo
or the hoopoe who arrive here every spring. Wild boar have also been
seen in the woods along with the occasional deer. If you enjoy walking
or cycling the local roads are very quite and you see so much more than
in the car. In the spring it is lovely to see the new born lambs and
it is not uncommon to see the odd calf being born.Youngsters may enjoy
helping to feed Silas the donkey, Dolly the sheep or Brian the goat.
They can also help themselves to eggs.
La Petite Grange is a tastefully renovated 19th century
grain store the ideal place for you and your family to get away from
it all. It stands in it's own woods with it's own private drive. It
is stone built on 2 levels with the kitchen and living room being on
the ground floor along with the shower room and toilet. The 2 bedrooms
are on the 1st floor. It is all decorated and furnished to a high standard.
The living room has a wood burning fire with comfy seating. The kitchen
has everything you should need and although no washing machine this
can be done for a very small fee. The shower is large and modern. The
bedrooms both have windows that look out over the woods so when you
wake in the morning you can watch the red squirrels that live here gathering
nuts. La Petite Grange is more suitable for very young children
as it is not right next to the lake and the stream. Also the stairs
are not steep as in the mill.
Location
Mayenne which is in the Loire is on the borders with
Normandy and Brittany so all three regions are only a short drive away.
The nearest village of Couesmes Vauce is within walking distance with
a pleasant bar and small shop. The nearest town of Gorron is 10 mins
drive and has a supermarket lots of bars and restaurants serving very
good food. There is a new swimming pool with steam room and jacuzzi.
You might also like to try the swing golf. St Fraimbault is about 2
miles away and is a beautiful village which wins awards for it's floral
displays. There is a lovely lake were you can hire rowing boats or pedalos.
The medieval town of Domfront and the spa town of Bagnoles are within
easy reach and should not be missed. Mont St Michel is also a must.
It sits right on the coast and the beaches there are superb. The braver
of you might like to try the paragliding it is supposed to be quite
an experience. For stunning coastlines, Top class food, Fine wines and
spectacular scenery this area offers it all.
