DescriptionLa Salamandre is a charming stone-built cottage with one double bedroom, a lounge/dining room with fully equipped corner oak kitchen. There is a log-burning stove and exposed oak beams. It is ideal for a couple looking for a relaxing break. It is set in the heart of the beautiful French countryside in a quiet cul-de-sac between the villages of Montanel in Normandy and St Ouen la Rouërie in Brittany. The garden is south-facing, with uninterrupted views over the countryside. Well-maintained bicycles are available for you to use. A travel cot is also available. LocationThe cottage is in a small hamlet of just five houses, situated in the heart of the French countryside about 30 minutes south of Avranches and about 40 minutes north of Rennes. It is quiet and peaceful - ideal for a quiet, relaxing holiday - or as a base for exploring Brittany and Normandy. The hamlet lies between the villages of Montanel in Normandy and St Ouen la Rouërie in Brittany in a quiet cul-de-sac. The village of St Ouen la Rouërie is within walking distance (about 20 minutes) and has a bar, post office, bakery, hairdressers, restaurant and general grocer's. The area has an interesting historic heritage, including sites from the Second World War. The rolling landscape is beautiful and unspoiled, with a rich variety of flora and fauna. There are many picturesque towns in the area, not to mention thenumerous châteaux, cathedrals and churches worth visiting. Local sporting activities include golf, walking, kayaking, horse riding, tennis and cycling. There are lovely walks around the lake and through the woods of the nearby Forêt de Villecartier, as well as an assault course and boating. During July and August, artists hold exhibitions of their work in Bazouges la Pérouse. Sandy, safe beaches are just a short drive away. You can also take a boat trip from Granville to Chausey, an archipelago of unspoiled islands to the south of Jersey. Nearby Mont St Michel is not to be missed, but you will also enjoy visiting the towns of Fougères, Ducey, Avranches, Villedieu les Poêles (for its copperwork), Mortain (for its panoramic views and waterfalls), Dol de Bretagne, Dinan (a beautiful inland river port), St Malo (particularly the old walled town and port), Vitré, etc. AccommodationThis recently-renovated cottage offers clean, cosy and comfortable ground floor accommodation. There is an open-plan lounge/dining room and kitchen featuring exposed beams, an attractive feature leaded light window and a wood-burning stove. There are two settees, one of which is a double bed settee, coffee table, and a DVD player. The dining table seats 4 people. The kitchen area has oak cupboards and is fully-equipped with gas cooker and extractor fan, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee-maker, and all the crockery, tableware and cutlery you will need. The double bedroom has a built-in wardrobe and a fully-tiled en-suite shower room with WC and wash-hand basin. The cottage is heated with electric radiators and a log-burning stove. Adjacent is a utility area with a washing machine. Here you will also find DVDs and bicycles for your use. Above the utility area is a well-equipped games room which offers darts, table tennis, snooker, table football, skittles as well as carpeted toddlers’ play area with tricycle and toys, There is also indoor picnic table and chairs in the games room. Outside there is a large lawn and trees, patio and garden furniture, rotary washing line, barbecue, swings and slide. The garden is south-facing and has wonderful views over open countryside. Bed linen and towels are provided. During peak periods, rentals run from Saturday to Saturday. The cottage will be ready for you after 3.00 pm and we ask you to vacate by 11.00 am on the day you leave. At other times, we can arrange days and hours to suit. Well behaved pets are welcome.
