Location
Set in the tiny hamlet of La Pellerie mid way between Vitré
& Fougeres Birdsong Cottage is a recently restored cottage that
has so much to offer those people who are looking for a break with
peace and tranquility. This peaceful tiny hamlet is very quiet that
is apart from the birds singing. Hence the name of this cottage 'Birdsong
Cottage'.
Fougeres, Vitre, Le Mont St. Michel, St. Malo, Dinan
and Dinard are within easy reach and the terrain complete with its lakes
& forests is great for both walking and cycling. The owner can recommend
many good restaurants both local good basic French cuisine, and if you
are looking for that special time out they can recommend somewhere suitable
for that as well, but never forget the local bars where a warm welcome
can always be found.
Description
The 17th century property, originally seven cottages
for the farmer, his family and workers, has been sensitively renovated
over the last two years, [new roof, plumbing and electricity services,
double glazed doors, windows and heating] to produce both a home for
the owners and a peaceful retreat for their guests.
The cottages are terrace built, south facing and bathed
in the sun most of the day. Built of local stone with a lot of the original
timbers still in place and with the renovation works carried out under
the watchful eye of an architect, everything that has been replaced
has been done to strict rules to preserve the “local” look.
The rear of the property looks out across fields,
and the front over the rockery, vegetable garden, lawns, stables, walnut
tree and more fields. Food and Wine are still reasonably cheap in France
and what could be better than having lunch, dinner or breakfast sitting
in the gardens. This house is 12km from Fougeres on the D179 Just outside
Combourtille Pronounced "com bore tee ay"!
The gardens have been set mainly to lawns interspersed
with beds of plants and flowers to help offer the correct atmosphere
to relax away from the general hustle and bustle of life.
Accommodation
The
cottage has two bedrooms one with a double bed and the other with twin
beds, one shower room with toilet, and the large main family areas of
lounge/kitchen/dinner together, Within the kitchen area there is the
gas cooker, Fridge and all the normal amenities & in the lounge
area will be found UK television & CD player/Radio. There is also
a washing machine for the use of our guests. The only difference with
the other cottage is that it has only one double bedroom and a sofa
bed for the third person or child.
The house is heated by electric wall convector heaters, which together
with the double glazed windows help to contribute to an even temperature
throughout.
During June-July-August
there is a swimming / splash pool for the use of our guests.
