Description

Chateau des Etoyeres is first mentioned in records from 1460 and was originally surrounded by a moat. Set in 15 acres of ancient forest and parkland, the estate comprises a Gate Lodge, Coach House, 18th century chapel, bread oven, meadows, a large forest and of course the chateau itself.

The chateau is also mentioned in Abbe Angot's 'Dictionnaire historique, topographique et biographique de la Mayenne'.

Accommodation

The Coach House is a well renovated, spacious, tastefully furnished building, with its own garden and use of the heated outdoor swimming pool. It was fully-refurbished in 2005 to a high specification. It has a wonderful large salon with a huge fireplace with logs to burn on a cool evening. It is situated away from the main Chateau and has its own private garden and BBQ. We provide kayaks for use on our river, a table-tennis table, and bicycles. There's plenty to do, apart from just relaxing. Guests are free to explore the private wood, where we have seen deer & hares, and also to visit the chapel.

Location

Chateau des Etoyeres is 0.5km from St Cenere and 3 kms from the pretty town of Montsurs, which has plenty of boulangeries, boucheries and supermarkets. It is boarded by the River Jouanne, a tributary of the Mayenne. The Chateau estate is situated between Mayenne and Laval. Laval provides many activities, including an 8 screen cinema, go-carting, badminton, tennis, etc. It is a beautiful medieval city with a castle and museum. There are many activities nearby; golf, cycling and walking paths, and horse-riding. And don’t forget, the Le Mans race track is only 45 minutes away!

Other historic and unusual places of interest to visit in the Mayenne area are; St Suzanne, a medieval town which hosts medieval re-enactments and other festivities, and Domfront, an ancient walled fortress town. A little further is the imposing Mont St Michel, a picturesque walled town on a rock connected to the mainland by a causeway.

Guests can fish in the river from the grounds if they bring their equipment. A permit may be required enquiries should be made at the local Marie.

Local Activities cycling, fishing, golf, horse riding, swimming, tennis, walking, kayaking, table tennis, It is a perfect get-away from it all haven - perfect for fishing, drawing/painting, and cycling. Our outdoor pool is heated in the summer and is 40 x 20 feet. Although linen and towels are provided, swimming towels would be an extra nominal charge.
